"The Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail is along one of the biggest wilderness areas I have ever been in.  At the end, I was pretty tired.   I balance the effort of paddling so many days in those difficult conditions with the experience of being in such remote wilderness locations, with camping in such beautiful surroundings in places that were so different from each other.  I balance it against what I learned about paddling and about myself.  I balance it against the sense of accomplishment I feel at pushing through difficult times and completing the trail, and I say it was worth it and that I would do it or something like it again. "

One of the best kept secrets in Florida is the Big Bend Saltwater Paddling Trail.  This 105-mile trail, starting on the Aucilla River and finishing in the town of Suwanee , promises seasoned paddlers adventure, solitude and frequent sightings of marine and bird life.  A good day with favorable winds and tides can instill an incomparable sense of freedom and accomplishment.  A windy and low tide day can you leave you wondering why you left the tent... We meet in Suwanee, Florida at a rental house on the first afternoon. Local airport (Gainesville) shuttles are available for a fee. We spend the first night at our rental house, get breakfast in town, and load up our gear and get a shuttle to our put-in on the Econfina River. We will spend the next eight nights along the water - seven of these nights will be spent camping at various island and riverside campsites, with one night at a motel in Steinhatchee (hot showers!). On the final day we arrive back at our rental house in Suwanee, where we take out and unload our gear, wash up, and relax before heading into town for dinner. Our last night will be spent at our rental house, with breakfast and check-out on the following morning.

This trip is for SEASONED PADDLERS ONLY, who are looking for adventure and a challenge. Daily paddling distances (except for the first on-water day) are between 8 to 15 miles. This trip is 11 days long, with 9 days of paddling, 7 nights of camping and three nights in lodging (double occupancy). Included in the cost of the trip are kayak, paddling accessories, lodging, all on-water meals, local transportation and shuttles, and guide.

There is a minimum number of participants required to confirm this tour. Therefore please do not make any travel arrangements (airline flights, train) until you have received confirmation from us that the trip has fully booked. A 50% deposit is due at time of reservation, with payment in full due 60 days prior to the trip’s start date. Email us or call (315) 335-1681 to reserve your spot.
