Whale Kayaking Adventures in Newfoundland
Newfoundland has a reputation for being friendly. Warm and welcoming, fun loving and funny to the core, the people here are also known for their natural creativity, unique language, and knack for storytelling. It is also well known for beautiful rocky coastlines, whale watching, icebergs and great outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking.
On this all inclusive trip the focus is kayaking in Trinity Harbor and Bay, and hopefully seeing whales, eagles, dolphins, capelin and other wildlife along the way. But there are many other things to see and experience. We hike a beautiful coastal trail, watch a comedic reenactment of life there in the 1600’s performed by a local theater, learn about historical and current living in this rugged region from locals and on a private guided historical tour.
Our accommodations in Trinity are at a restored, waterfront home built in the 1800’s. Each room is private and has an en-suite bath. Meals are made just for our group right at the lodge and breakfasts are done to order. This is not a large group tour, you have personalized service at every step along the way!
Please keep in mind this is the north Atlantic and water temperatures rarely get above 50° F in the summer. You should be comfortable in a kayak and have appropriate clothing for paddling cool water conditions.

This is highly subjective to change based on wind, tides, weather, sea conditions, paddlers abilities and other unforeseen circumstances. Guests need to be accustomed to paddling with skirts and have experience paddling in wind. Paddling a tandem kayak will be required when paddling on Trinity Bay for most guests, solos are available for the harbor paddles for everyone.
Sunday, July 20 – Transfer to St Johns, Newfoundland and get shuttled to your local hotel and then meet for dinner and an overview of the week.
Monday, July 21 – In the morning we have a private transfer to Trinity (about 2 ½ hours), upon arrival you will settle into your lodging and have lunch. In the afternoon we will get fitted to kayaks and gear to explore Trinity Harbor. Later in the evening we will have dinner right at our lodge.
Tuesday, July 22 – In the morning we go out on Trinity Bay for the first time. Trinity Bay is a more open body of water where we will likely experience some ocean swells common in sea kayaking. We will take the kayaks down the coast and paddle back to Trinity. Along the way there are opportunities to see whales, eagles, sea hawks and other wildlife. In the afternoon we will do a historical walking tour. The tour and guide are phenomenal! Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant.
Wednesday, July 23 – In the morning we are back in kayaks to explore a different area of Trinity Bay. In the afternoon we will see the Trinity Pageant, a walking, outdoor show performed by the local theater that re-enacts the history of Trinity in a comical way. Dinner tonight will again be at a local restaurant.
Thursday, August 24 – Today we will go for a hike overlooking Trinity Bay in the morning and in the afternoon will have a private boat tour of the bay. If we haven’t seen whales by kayak yet, this will be our best opportunity to see them. On our last night in Trinity, our hosts will prepare a special Newfoundland dinner at the lodge.
Friday, August 25 – We enjoy our last morning paddling on Trinity Harbour before our private transfer takes us back to St Johns for the night and dinner.
Saturday, August 26 – After breakfast we say our goodbyes and head back home.
