Hike and paddle to great Adirondack views and return to an authentic Adirondack Resort in the evenings to relax.  The Main Lodge was built in 1898 in the midst of the Gilded Age as a private hunting camp for Mickel and Clara Paul and was originally named Nawadaha, an Ojibwe word meaning “in the midst of the rapids”.

This trip has it all!  Great Adirondack scenery, lodging at a historic Adirondack resort, history, hikes with great views and beautiful paddling locations.  This is Adirondack relaxation and exploration at its best.

The view from Castle Rock is well worth the hike.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive for check-in after 4:00 PM.  Relax, or enjoy a pre-dinner paddle or hike.

Day 2 – On our first day we will do a tour of Great Camp Sagamore to give you a better understanding of where you are. We will also get fitted to kayaks and gear and then paddle Sagamore Lake and then hike one of the trails around camp.

Day 3 –Today we will paddle 7th Lake, part of the historic Fulton Chain of Lakes.  Lunch will be at a scenic spot overlooking the lake called "Arnolds Rock" where you'll be able to see the seaplane base adding to the unique "north country" feel.  After lunch we'll paddle to the end of the lake and go for a hike to Bug Lake, a pretty little lake with loons and a picturesque setting for a rest.  The trail is one of the original "roads" in the area called the Uncus Road and is a relatively flat walk.

Day 4 – We paddle Blue Mountain Lake to the Castle Rock trail head.  From here we climb to the summit of Castle Rock which offers views of Blue Mountain Lake back towards Raquette Lake and to Durant Lake in the other direction. The hike up Castle Rock is about 3.5 miles round-trip and does have a steeper section on some exposed rock.

Day 5 – Raquette Lake is the destination for today where we'll paddle past Great Camps, historic sites and beautiful islands.

Day 6 – We say our "goodbyes" and check out or spend an additional and explore on your own.  If you haven't been to the Adirondack Experience (museum) in Blue Mountain Lake it's well worth it!
