Kayaking, waterfall hiking, elk viewing, walking food tour and authentic southern meals are all included in this Smoky Mountain Adventure. Early Fall is a special time in the mountains with bugling elk, cooler days and blue skies. There is also some spare time built in when you can pick your own adventure. Choose from ziplining, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, fishing or just relaxing with a book.
The Smoky Mountains are the ultimate playground, with a wide diversity of outdoor adventures, and the ideal destination for an active and healthy getaway. Asheville is a thriving mountain city with a funky and eclectic downtown and a burgeoning culinary scene.
While in Asheville we stay at the Crown Plaza Resort. Located less than one mile from the stylish and eclectic downtown area, the 125-acre resort offers not only impeccable accommodations, but a variety of unique amenities. The Overlook Restaurant offers scenic resort views and upscale fare while the lobby bar and lounge offers casual evening dining, televised sports, and fireside seating. Itinerary
Day 1 - Welcome to the mountains! Your first day is designated as your arrival day. We will either meet you at the Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) and shuttle you to the Crown Plaza Resort or meet you directly at the resort. An orientation about the upcoming week and dinner will be at the Overlook Restaurant located right in the resort.
Day 2 - Eat a hearty breakfast and plan to depart by 8:30 to head up the Blue Ridge Parkway and hike to some magnificent waterfalls. Snacks will be provided on the trail in a picturesque setting. Upon returning to Asheville we will do a walking "foodie" tour in downtown.
Day 3 - In the morning we head west to get geared up and spend the day kayaking Fontana Reservoir. Fontana Reservoir is a large lake with several "fingers" to explore and is surrounded mostly by public land. After paddling we head to Hemlock Inn for check in and will have time to clean up and rest before out first authentic southern dinner.
Day 4 - The morning is yours to do as you please. Go for a walk, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, trout fishing or just relax. After lunch we head out to explore the Great Smoky National Park and watch elk in the evening.
Day 5 - Today we head over to paddle and explore Santeetlah Lake. This is another mountain lake, surrounded mostly by public with several scenic places to take a break and enjoy your surroundings.
Day 6 - On our last day we head back to a different part of Fontana Reservoir to explore and enjoy our final day of Appalachian kayaking.
Day 7 - We say our "good-byes" after breakfast and check out of our inn.

Therefore please do not make any travel arrangements (airline flights, train) until you have received confirmation from us that the trip has fully booked.
